What is actinic keratosis?

Actinic Keratosis (AK) are skin lesions resulting from overgrowth of atypical skin cells. They frequently appear as scaly reddened bumps on sun-exposed skin. AKs are precursors to squamous cell carcinoma and may progress to cancer although it is not common. Treatment is usually cryotherapy.
