What is heparin induced thrombocytopenia?
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a decrease in platelet count in the blood. It is caused by administration of the medication heparin. There are two types of HIT: Type I and Type II. Type I HIT usually returns to normal quickly. Type II HIT can cause platelet clots.
