Bertolotti Syndrome is characterized as an anatomical variation of the fifth lumbar vertebra in which a portion of the bone may join or fuse with the sacrum or ilium. This anatomical variation may lead to changes in the biomechanics of the movement of the spine, and may cause lower back pain.
