What is Sandhoff disease?

Sandhoff disease is a lipid storage disorder. It is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme beta-hexosaminidase; this results in accumulation of certain fats (lipids) in the brain and other organs of the body. This leads to a progressive destruction of the central nervous system.
