What is acute zonal occult outer retinopathy?

Acute Zonal Occult Outer Retinopathy is characterized as an inflammation in the back of the eye causing vision impairment. The cause of the inflammation is unknown. Usually vision returns to normal in 1 to 3 years however vision loss may be permanent.
