What is tetany?
Tetany refers to the involuntary contraction of muscles (such as spasms or convulsions) caused by an abnormal increase in the number of times a nerve sends a signal. This is usually caused by conditions such as kidney disease and electrolyte deficiencies that induce very low levels of calcium.
