What is umbilical hernia?

An umbilical (belly button area) hernia is an outward bulging (protrusion) of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ(s) by the navel area. This is commonly seen at birth or may be seen in adulthood after trauma or stress to the abdominal area has occurred.
