NMO-IgG blood test is done to establish the diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and related disorders (eg, relapsing transverse myelitis or relapsing optic neuritis) to distinguish them from multiple sclerosis (MS) early in the course of disease because optimal treatments differ for NMO and MS.
