What is L-Arginine?

An example of L-Arginine

L-arginine is an amino acid that does a variety of things in the body including getting rid of ammonia and helping in the formation of proteins. L-arginine also reduces stiffness of the blood vessels and supplements may help with conditions that improve when blood vessels are relaxed.

Advice & Tips
I began this treatment as an attempt to potentiate/augment the slowly diminishing stimulatory (energy) and concentration/memory effect from Nardil. L-Arginine metabolism involves the production of nitric oxide (NO) which releases dopamine (among other things) in the brain. Dopamine is responsible for memory and cognition and, in turn, is metabolized into norepinephrine and adrenalin for energy. Seemed like an ideal supplement to bring back these effects on Nardil. In reality (for me) it actually increased my anxiety/irritation horribly which cycled with depressive episodes. These effects were dose related in my experiment and began at 500mg 3 times a day (dose too high for me). My advice would be to start this supplement at minimal doses when on an antidepressant and work your way up slowly, if needed. I find it a good supplement when used at smaller doses (i.e. 250mg) and taken only 1 or 2 times a day on an empty stomach with lots of water (avoids nausea; decreases stomach acid buildup; dilutes high urea concentration). It may provide you with a nice stimulation effect you can feel buzzing through you as well as clarity of mind, both of which are good AD augments. Higher doses will inhibit cognitive and memory abilities. Take in morning and afternoon as night dosing may increase insomnia. Drink lots of water throughout the day to flush out highly concentrated urea. These are my observations from use on Nardil....your experiences may be different
