Advice & Tips: This drug actually serves a dual purpose. It is a tricyclic anti-depressant that has a side effect of dry mouth helping to treat excess saliva. It was originally prescribed for its drying effect. I stopped taking this because other medications I'm currently taking are causing the same dryness. This is an effective low cost dual purpose medication. I would recommend this medication for any patient in need of an anti depressant or management of excess saliva.

Advice & Tips: This med aided in weight gain. I have since gone on a gluten free diet which is helping IBS and migraine symptoms. It has only been 2 weeks since I changed my diet. I think it's worth it.

Advice & Tips: When I first began this medication it would help me sleep or rather help me feel sleepy. It no longer does that for me, even after the increase. I know it has helped my depression, I was on the verge of suicide before the increase. Now I am more positive and I feel better, if only it would help me sleep. The dry mouth is constant, I have become accustomed to it, I keep hard candy around, to me it helps with stimulating saliva.

Advice & Tips: When I first started the medication I had horrible dry mouth. I solved it by chewing gum, it seemed to stimulate the saliva. I am also drinking half a pot of coffe to wake up in the morning, which I don't really care to do, but I have to work so I do what I have to do. Also I am taking the generic which I get at walmart because of the $4 dollar deal which this medicine actually cost me $3.83 a month!

Advice & Tips: I gave it up because of weight gain and I was pre diabetic and needed to reset my priorities.It's great to be awake in the morning but the pain level I'm experiencing has gone up. I have not been taking Amitryptyline for many months and find that I suffer from more pain than I did before which I treat with analgesia , stretching and exercise. I'd never go back on it because of the side effects especially the fatigue .

Advice & Tips: I had been taking this drug as a sleeping pill for insomnia as I can't take sleeping pill due to bad reactions to them. I am very sensitive to drugs and especially this one. I could only take 1/4 of the recommended dose to sleep through the night or I'd be sleeping for a few days. This worked fine for a while but all of a sudden I started getting bad reactions from this drug.

Advice & Tips: this would be a fairly good treatment except for the drowsiness it causes in the morning. I used this drug as a sleeping pill because I'm very sensitive to it. I would take a quarter of this pill to give me a drowsiness to be able to fall asleep.A whole pill would knock me out for 2 days! but all of a sudden I started having bad reactions to taking the quarter of a pill. I would feel really strange and almost suicidal or something like that , strange thoughts would go through my head and then I would have pain in my stomache, weird feelings in my head and shortness of breath and was unable to sleep until the drug lost it's power. I really don't understand it because sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. I think if I have to use it to often I do get a reaction but If I haven't used it in a long time, like a few months then I don't get a reaction.

Advice & Tips: Good for insomnia to help you sleep through the night if your not too sensitive to it. Good for when you wake up and can't go back to sleep. Keeps you drowsy so you can fall back to sleep fast. bad if you need to do something important in the morning.

Advice & Tips: I kept trying to lose the 30 lbs I had put on and was unable to do it, no matter what I tried. Then I read that this drug has this side effect and asked the doctor to give me something else, since I had insomnia without depression, and didn't need an anti-depressant. I started losing the weight immediately, and all of it came off without me having to do anything else.
