Advice & Tips: When I was first diagnosed with MS in July 2001, I was in the hospital and was given heavy doses of solumedrol since I was in such bad shape. I took solumedrol drips monthly from August 2001-July 2007. My new neurologist (2007) suggested long term use is doing more harm than good, so he took me off it. When I took the monthly solumedrol, it would be a one-hour administration in a hospital and from 2005-2007, a nurse would come to my house to give it to me. This medicine would keep me awake for 24 hours. Two days later, I would feel an awful 'crash' for a day, but then I would stabilize. I would start feeling when it was time for me to get the next monthly dose, feeling a similar 'crash'. I received a nasty metallic taste in my mouth from the second half-hour of the treatment until about six hours later. I always needed to have a peppermint handy during my infusion.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: metallic taste in mouth

Advice & Tips: When I was first given the Medrol, which was to replace years of high dosage Prednisone, I had positive results. i had more energy. It cleared up the skin rash breakouts I was having. However after being on the medrol and prednisone for so many years the effects have turned on me. i cannot muster the energy to get out of bed. I have gained well over 100 lbs from the hunger it causes. It makes me crave sugar and salt. When I try to stop taking this drug my skin starts to bleed out of nowhere. The pain becomes unbearable and i lose weight. It is a vicious circle i can't get away from. if i know i have to do something importanr i will take an extra pill the day before and it calms my skin and joints enough for a short while. I would really hesitate to recommend this to anyone because the side effects are now worse than my original problems.

Advice & Tips: i was able to walk, and stand without severe pain in my lower back. it was amazing because i normally need to ride on the wheel chairs in the grocery stores if more than 5 minutes, and i was able to walk at lest 15 -30 minutes before sitting down. this was good for me, and i loved it. but, after a few weeks, the medicine worn off and i was back to earth and in pain as usual. my doctor won't give me this treatment that often because she says it not good to take it all the time. this medicine made the lyrica work. i had been on lyrica for 4-5 weeks, and was not sleeping and the pain level was severe. but as soon as i took this medrol pak for a couple of days, i started sleeping for about 2 weeks straight, 10 to 12 hours straight each time. when i started moving around the house i notice i was not hurting as bad. i was cleaning up, and cooking dinner for the first time in months. And, this medicine is cheap. How come when the medicines are cheap, they are not good to take all the time? Wow
Cost: $25-49 monthly
