Advice & Tips
Mottling of the skin on the lower legs is a common side effect; not very pretty. Individual patients should evaluate whether they can live with the cosmetic problems in exchange for the benefits derived from Amantadine, which can be considerable.

Advice & Tips
Watch out for edema; it hit me 3 months after starting Amantadine. My feet, ankles and lower legs swelled up so much that my shoes didn't fit. We cut my dosage from 3 100mg capsules daily to 2, and the edema is now subsiding.
I've also found that it causes some nausea for me.

Advice & Tips
Give it a good long trial; it took a few weeks for me to get over the initial nausea and dizziness, but I feel great now! I have lost some weight, but I consider that a plus.
I have taken this drug for close over 20 years and haven't had to change the dosage. The wonderful thingwith this drug is that it is also an anti-virual medication and I tolerate it well.

Advice & Tips
This was the drug I have taken for over 15 years and never increased the dosage. It definatetly has with my stiffness.
Initially I felt an improvement in my balance and my gait. Neverteless, I had a fall in April. Still don't know just what happened...only that I was suddenly falling through space toward a door jamb. No damage done.
I developed splotchy, purple, blood-shot ankles and went off the Amantadine (200 mg/day) This was a few weeks after being started on Ropinirole. (.50 mg 3 times a day). Ankles seem to be clearing up.

Advice & Tips
Once a week, I can walk for about half an hour before taking my medication. This began shortly after I started Mirapex. I stopped Amantadine and Azilect prior to hernia surgery. After surgery, I resumed the Azilect but not the Amantadine, and could not do my weekly walk without medication. Adding the Amantadine fixed that.
