Very little and mostly no shaking any more. I am completely off the medications (I insisted). Advice & Tips: My DBS Neurostimulator FINALLY kicked in after close to one year of monthly programming visits to the DBS clinic at Robert Wood Johnson medical center. I am doing MUCH better now. I have not reduced my meds but that's OK. It has brought me back to life and some days I almost feel like my old self.
Cost: $25-49 monthly
Side effects: Dizziness, Neck and Shoulder muscle soreness

Dosage: One time
Advice & Tips: AS OF 11/2010: Right now I am in the middle of programming sessions for the IPG battery in my chest. I go once a month to a "DBS clinic" Robert Wood Johnsohn Medical Center in New Brunswick NJ, USA. I see the DBS programmer and a neurologist. Even though I only have PD on my left side, it is quite severe. Unfortunately, the neuro has INCREASED my meds and the DBS programming has been very very slow - each time I get the voltage increased the PD seems to "compensate" It has been 5 months since the surgery and so far the benefits have been minimal. One unexpected positive effect has been reduced sense of bladder urgency. The surgery itself was not bad since they only had to install the wire lead on the right side of my brain.
Side effects: Dizziness, Neck and Shoulder muscle soreness

  • Perceived effectiveness for Tremor(s): Major
  • Side Effects: Moderate
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Not at all
Advice & Tips: Personally it was me very easy to make the decision since i had the opportunity to know a patient that had been already operated and my only question to him was it is that he had to be operate again and he told me that If without doubting it one minute. also i had the opportunity to know a youth from another social stratum to which they operated very recently for the epilepsy to the day that we saw each other and it was one of people that more push myself to operate me. Regarding other benefits I consider that the benefit is to have recovered the initiative of finishing quick very fast anything that I start. What also produces certain frustration for what the last 10 years of my illness I cannot recover it in 6 months
Cost: $200+ monthly
Side effects: Loss of balance

Advice & Tips: DBS is the new technology that alleviates all shaking and dykinesia and allow almost full body functionality. My DBS surgery is performed improperly. The leads were too close together, placed at a bad angle 35 degrees from the "floor" and the sutures were on top of the hardware
