Oct 28, 2009 Venlafaxine by itself seems both to increase my alertness and to bliss me out a little too much; I get lethargic at 75 mg daily. Even at 37.5 mg, I've added (after a bit of research) my previous low dose of bupropion (25 mg) back into the mix as a counterbalancing "upper". Although intermittent, I'm seeing some direct effects on the depression: e.g., posture as well as mood. < $25 monthly
Nov 13, 2009 Venlaxafine seemed effective (within limits) for peripheral neuropathy and positive for relief of depression. Physical adverse effects at this dosage seemed minimal if any. Unresolved: Did this drug bliss me out too much, keeping me passive and lazy? And did it make me more suddenly irritable? I quit because of a pharmacy restriction (ironically based on the fact that I was taking "too little" of the drug), and will resume the trial once I talk to my primary provider in about 10 days. < $25 monthly

Dec 10, 2008 As best you can, take this medication at the same time every day. For a long time I was taking only 150mg a day and didn't feel any benefits from the medication. However, when my psychiatrist increased my dose to 300mg a day, I could detect a significant improvement in mood. This is a relatively high dose for this medication and it can cause an increase in blood pressure. Fortunately this has not been an issue for me but might be something for others to take into consideration. Also, I take the XR-capsules and I can tell a difference between the XR and non-XR. $200+ monthly
Mar 25, 2009 Take this medication at the same time everyday and do not skip more than one day of taking it or else you will begin to feel horrible withdrawal symptoms. But I have Effexor XR to be extremely effective in treating my depression. I would caution anyone that considers taking this drug for a long period of time to be aware that it can be very difficult to get off of. You will need to titrate down your dose in very small increments under your doctor's supervision. monthly
Nov 07, 2009 This has been an excellent medication for me as long as I take it every day as prescribed. < $25 monthly

Aug 27, 2009 It is very hard to get off Effexor so I would try other AD treatments first. monthly
Sep 22, 2009 I started on 75 mg the up to 150 then up to 225 mg. All XR once daily. It did stop my panic and anxiety but I had no energy and felt sleepy most of the day until when I went to bed. Then I felt awake. So now down to 75 mg XR and 300mg of Wellbutrin XR that is much more effective fore me. I have more energy and don't feel drugged as on Effexor. But everyone reacts differently. $25-49 monthly

Advice/Tips Cost
Apr 16, 2009 avoid getting on this treatment , even though it is efective somewhat in helping my depression ( and I have tried many type's of meds for over 20 years ) and at this time after changing from Lexapro to Effexor ( since Lexapro stopped helping ) Effexor seemed to be much more effective until I forgot once to take my daily dose for several days ....I started to experience the brain flops and did not know why ...well after doing some research I found out why! Now I " never leave home without it" monthly

Advice/Tips Cost
Mar 30, 2009 Effexor XR is the only one of the anti-depressants (SSRI, DRI, SNRI, etc) that have worked for me thus far. I have tried Welbutrin, Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil -- and none worked. With the Effexor I notice a tangible change in being able to control my depression due to BPD. Lately as my bipolar has been metamorphosing the depressive states have become a bit harsher than normal. For the last year and three months I was on *just* Effexor (it didn't send me manic) and was able to control my mania/hypomania through other means with the depression at bay. Now, I have had to seek adjunctive therapy (my psych. and I decided on Neurontin) and we are thinking about upping the dose of Effexor, but I am on such a low dose, I'd rather not go higher if I don't have to. This is the second time I have been on it. The first time I needed only the lowest dose (37.5mg) for it to be effective. The only problem I have had is mild sexual side effects (delay of ejaculation/having a hard time finishing, and on occasion going soft). I will say that if one must go OFF the Effexor, side effects of the withdrawals are horrible. < $25 monthly

Advice/Tips Cost
Jan 22, 2009 Find the right dose for you. We started at 75 mg/day and went to 150/day. At 150 a day nothing bothers me, but I also felt I was nearly neutral emotionally which is unacceptable to me. So we back off to 75 again and I used meditation and exercise to manage the frustration level but I feel like I have a better, more real life experience. I expect to reduce to next level down in a few months and be drug free -- barring any setbacks -- within a year. < $25 monthly
