Apr 04, 2009 When I first diagnosed with PD 10 yrs ago, the first line of treatment that was used was Carbidopa/Levadopa. Was should have been used was what is called a "dopamine agonist" such as Segeline. The problem with Carbidopa/Levadopa is that it works so well that it is often prescribed first, consequently it stops working after several years. This affects Young onset PD patients in particular. For those who are currently taking it, I have found the sustained form in particular of Sinemet CR (brand name) to give better results due to more sustained blood levels. $100-199 monthly
