It's impossible to tell how any one person will react until you try it. In my case, the bad reaction to this drug was instant with a most unpleasant high not normally associated with any legal drug! Even after persevering with it, I was not able to function, it made me more confused and foggy, worsened my nausea and blurred vision, increased my trembling and shaking, caused dreadful headaches and I started getting severe chest pains and tightness in the chest again.

Starting to titer down on the gabapentin to see what, if any, affect it's still having on me. Taking one 300mg pill out of my daily dose each week, starting in the mornings.

I'm at the point now with the gabapentin that I'm wondering if it's doing anything. I've switched around the dosing schedule during the day and nothing happens. I thinking about doing a drug holiday to see what, if anything, it's doing for me anymore.

When I first started taking Gabapentin, I felt a little groggy during the day. I started at one 100mg cap three times a day, and told to increase to 1200mg/day spread out in 3 equal doses. I didn't feel "loopy" as my doc thought I might, so I titered up pretty quickly. It seemed to be helping a little with my mood, so I increased up to 600mg 3x/day (1800mg) over the next week. Every time I increased my dosage I felt a little tired/groggy but nothing too bad. Eventually I ended up at 2700mg/day (3 x 900mg/day) and that's where I've been for months. If I forget to take one of my doses, I can tell; I get very achy and sort of this "impending doom" feeling in my chest. In the beginning of treatment I experienced a significant improvement, but now sometimes I wonder if it's still working. I can miss a dose in the middle of the day, especially if I'm involved with something, and not notice -- but what reminds me is that my overall pain increases until I take it. One side effect that I noticed in the beginning was that food tasted so GOOD! I ate a lot, especially sweets, and gained about 20 lbs before I realized what was happening. Now that I'm aware of the tendency to overeat I'm watching it.

It was given to me as an aid for severe leg cramps and as a supplement for epilepsy. It didn't do anything for the leg cramps. I can't say for certain if it helped with the seizures. Probably a little or not at all? It could work for others though.

I've been diligent in the taking of "all HIV medications," as prescribed. The benefit was that the Medication had all but eliminated the numbness and tingling throughout my body which was especially worrisome during the night or whenever I'd been in bed for at least half an hour. The dizziness (one of the side effects) I experienced following getting up too fast from bed or stooping to retrieve somethig was the early warning. That being unbeknownst to me that I'd have 2 Strokes, in the 3:00 A.M hour, exactly 1 week apart. Which lead to my Hospitalization for about 1 week. I'm now on a daily low dose Aspirin regimen and taking the Gabapentin every other day. What occurred with me was "not related to Gabapentin alone. So fear "not," because I wasa taking Calcium supplements without vitamin D (necessary in conjunctrion), which allows the body to absorb the Calcium. The Calcium deposits in my bloodstream, caused the Strokes due to the blockage in my arteries where blood supply from my heart to my brain is vital.

Be prepared for potential for hallucinations in your dreams, a sense of unreality mixing with reality in the first week or two... then it quits. I had this happen twice as the first time I quit it immediately scared out of my wits, but then once realizing what's going on, bore thru it, but it's an emotional roller coaster. Then I conducted my own experiment and quit it thinking it wasn't doing its job and my pain level jumped from about a 2 to a 12 til I got back on it again... silly me. It works. Stops the repetitive spasms and reduces the pain to a tolerable level.
