Advice & Tips
I would advice anyone taking this medication or any medication for high blood pressure to stay on their medication unless you have an adverse reaction to it. Don't stop unless you have been advised by your physician.
I took this whenever I had a hyperintensive crisis due to Contraindications for MAOI's, such as aged meats or cheeses, Soy, or anything else containing tyramine. I had a hyperintensive crisis once when I took cold medication that contained pseudoephedrine. Not fun. I quickly took Nifedipine, and it calmed down within 10 minutes.
Two tips.
After my crisis, my doctor said that if it should happen again, I should chew the pill, which will quicken the effectiveness.
And secondly, I bought a small medication keychain, so that no matter where I was, I would always have access to the pill. You never know what food is spoiled or has ingredients in it that you wouldn't think it would. I had a very mild crisis when I ate some pastry twists, which must have had enough of a trace of soy in it to give me a small reaction, but not enough to list on the ingredients.
