Take as prescribed. If you happen to injure yourself and have been on this medicine for a long period of time you will need an extra medicine for an injury. Currently I have injured my right knee again. While the oxycontin works excellent for my pain issues. It is very important to keep in contact with your doctor if you have any other pain not related to the fibro. I don't think I could walk into a Dr's office today and be prescribed this medication for pain. But i started out on a very low dose I want to say 8 yrs ago. I have not had an increase in my dose for 6 years. And I still feel it is very effective. Some people may differ with my opinion. But for me it has been a godsend. And I never carry all of my medicine on me. Because from the inital visit with my Dr. he was very upfront and said I don't care if your house burns down I will not refill early. And with the fibro fog I have left my purse behind at the store and I carry one days dose with me. It's a good idea.

I have never gone off of this medicine. Yesterday was my first visit with a new therapist. Everything was OK until I told him I was on Oxycontin. He had the nerve to basically compare me to Anna Nicole Smith. It is very helpful. I have liver disease. Very few side effects. But I know they have new medications on the market I would give them a try first.

AVOID THE GENERIC!! The brand has fewer side effects and is extremely more effective. If your insurance requires generic OxyContin, request your physician order a P.A. with your insurance provider to mandate dispense of brand only.
