Stay with it. The benefits to me far outweigh the risk. With Avonex I have been able to continue working and feel like I am a productive adult who can care for myself. The downside: The cost is horrid , with insurance I pay for the first two months each year. this is approximately $4000 out of pocket.

Side effects are different for everyone but I find if I take Advil about 30 minutes before my injection, I'm less likely to have bad flu-like symptoms.

The needle may be a little bigger than you'd expect, but the once a week is a major plus for me. The flu like sx (fever, chills, body aches) don't last long and after time they seem to disappear.

most difficult part is the needle. if your muscles are tense it hurts. the more relaxed, the less the hurt. used to get everything ready, choose the general shot location on my thigh, tighten my leg as tight as i could, then relax it, look off to the side a little and start counting backwards from 10. at some point, i'd stab the needle/syringe in, sort of surprising myself then look at where it landed. it landed way off course only once, didn't go in all the way a couple of times, but otherwise worked GREAT for me!

be sure you take ibuprophen! also ask your doc for Amantidine, this helps with the flu feeling you get from using Avonex, also know one week you could not have any side effects, just know this will not be the case every week, you could go 3 weeks and be fine and then all of a suddon you are sicker then you thought possible, just treat yourself like you have the flu and do not fight the fact that that you are having side effects, remember it is what it is and there is nothing we can do to stop it, just be gratful for the times you are not sick! Stay strong, and know it will end!

i selfinjedted it after training with ms nurse unexpected benefits negativ cause i developed antibodies in the first 6 to 12 months the sideeffects were awfull, i basically had all the sideeffects you can get i took a shot every wednesday and on thursdays i was always even more tired than usual
