Adderall XR works pretty well for me. I find it works to treat ADD as well as depression - since the increased focus and productivity repels unwanted thoughts and helps me achieve a sense of accomplishment.
I only take it 'as needed', so it can be a bit of an issue if I only have a small amount of work I need to get done that day, but end up being jacked on it for the rest of it.
I try to be mindful not to take it too much or for a sustained period, because coming off of it produces a certain rebound low, increases my overall tolerance for the drug, and increases insomnia.
It's best if I have a stretch of time to dedicate to my work and am in a distraction-reduced environment.
Lately, it is doing something to my respiratory system; my ears have felt plugged up the last couple of years. In the late 1990's, I was treated for Asthma because I was having some difficulty breathing.
Do not drink coffee when you're on this medication. It will cause severe anxiety if even one little thing that's negative happens to you, especially if you are also neurotic. It seems to help my mood when I'm on it, but coming down from these stimulants can sometimes be depressing and lead to anxiety. It took me a little while to find good times to take the medication so it would last all day and not be too much or too little. If you take too much in one day, it will cause you to become anxious. I also found that it made me quite a perfectionist, so some projects are taking longer than they used to.
On terms of the side effects, when I take it I have no appetite. But I see this as a positive cause it keeps me from eating all day lol. HOWEVER the withdrawal side effects when it wears off is the opposite so my appetite becomes supercharged. My weight kind of maintains though but if I want to lose weight I eat then take it later in the day so at night by the time it wears off, I'm ready for bed soon.
