I have found St John's Wort to be effective for symptoms of depression. I stopped this and many other meds/supplements because I could no longer work (after 27 years as a registered nurse), my LTD insurance purchased when I worked was denied, I lost insurance coverage, and my husband was out of work for a time. We have moved across country for a new job for my husband and I am working on SS Disability--if we ever have the funds, I will resume this and other medications as available.
