Advice & Tips
This can be a very effective treatment, and some people find it very valuable. I get it daily right now, and I don't think I would be doing anywhere near as well as I am without it. Finding a way to get it as often as you possibly can, in a way that you can afford it, is absolutely vital. I am currently paying $65CAD for 6 treatments in 1 week. I take Sundays off because the clinic I go to is closed on Sundays. When I started this daily treatment (I've taken some breaks) program, while the acupuncturist was putting needles in me, I closed my eyes involuntairilly because I relaxed for the first time in about 3 days. I don't think I actually slept, but I was deeply relaxed. I didn't want to leave when she came to take needles out. But it was the end of the day for her.

Advice & Tips
I truly believe that acupuncture has the ability to stall the progression of ALS. I received acupuncture for about four months and then I had a two-month break. During that two-month break I noticed an acceleration in the progression of my disease. Once I started acupuncture again it seems that my progression has slowed down considerably.

Advice & Tips
I had such an unusually negative reaction to this treatment that even the practitioner was startled. I've always had a fear of needles but as an adult I've managed to make peace with the occasional blood draw. I worked hard to psyche myself up before the treatment, convincing myself that I was fine and this would be a positive, maybe even pleasant experience. I think the practitioner planned to place about 30 needles but after about 15 or so she placed a needle in my neck which caused the muscle to spasm. I started hyperventilating and nearly vomited. She placed a few more needles in my hands and wrists and left me alone for about 40 minutes. I was so uncomfortable and couldn't move an inch because of the needles in my back, neck, legs and hands. I cried to myself and felt miserable, unable to wipe my nose or adjust my aching lower back. I could have probably hit the call switch but for some reason it never occurred to me; I was totally focused on just getting through to the end. I've asked other people of their experiences and Googled on the web but I haven't found anyone else who had such a bad experience. It took several days to get back to my personal baseline, pain-wise. The only thing I can figure is that I was just too tense and anxious to let the treatment do any good, and instead it made me worse. I think it's just not a modality that will work for me. I won't be going back.

Advice & Tips
Parasthesia stopped ENTIRELY after years of barbed wire and broken glass in my guts and sexual organs. I have never missed a monthly treatment. I stopped smoking around 1987, and have had the occasional relapse, but the parasthesia and fecal incontinence prompted me to quit again. Smoking is the main cause of acupuncture not working as well as it did the the days of the red emperor.

Advice & Tips
Even if acupuncture weren't helping me cope with some of my issues it has had a possitive effect in my sleeping, eating, muscle tenseness, energy levels, etc. It may not work for everyone but personally I think it is a great suppliment to the vitamins and hopefully it will make it so that I can get of the medications I am taking sooner.
