My problem was an inability to sleep through the night. I was waking up about 4 hours into sleep, and then unable to fall back asleep. Ambien was taken at bedtime with my muscle relaxant (already taking). I still woke up 4-5 hours into sleep but then was super drowsy until getting out of bed. Also, side effect of diarrhea was extreme. Stopped Ambien, and diarrhea stopped.

I am hoping to cut back and my doctor has said I can start taking it every other day. As long as I take my muscle relaxant and pain meds this works pretty well. After a couple weeks I cut back to every 2 nights and got very sick. We are not sure if it was a withdrawal reaction, which we think is unlikely, or something else. With fibromyalgia it is hard to tell. Now I have to take a blood pressure med 3 times a day to keep the cold, clammy, sweats and unbearable weakness away, and I am back to taking the ambien every night.

Works well when I take it with 15 mg MS Contin. Alone was better than nothing, but I was still waking in pain often and hurt so much by about 4AM that I still wasn't getting enough sleep. It wasn't strong enough to overcome the pain.

With fibromialgia we need more non-REM sleep. I don't think it is give me that, I still talk and toss and turn, but some sleep is better than no sleep. I used to sleep 3-4 hours if I was lucky, now I can generally sleep 7 with only waking up about 2 times. Even then I fall back to sleep quickly.

I started getting panic attacks for no reason. I suspected possible interaction with atenolol so the dr offered me trazodone since its like a 2 in one for anxiety and insomnia.

I RARELY take this. Only if I REALLY need to and I'm having severe sleep trouble where I need one night of good rest, or I have something important the next day where I NEED good uninterrupted sleep. The side effects are you get high off of it and you hallucinate. It's strange and yet another reason why I rarely take it.

Taking the Ambien along with the Temazepam, helps me sleep deeper. Taking one or the other, I continued to have interrupted sleep.
