I was prescribed this by my PD doctor for insomnia and it worked if I took it about an hour prior to going to bed. I had to stop taking it because I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and put on a medication for pain that prohibits me from taking the sleep medicine with the pain medicine.
I began taking this medication (Restoril) to help me sleep through the night. It's a cheap alternative for Lunesta and Ambien, which I couldn't afford. But, something's better than nothing. Besides, I'm an extreme morning person, so waking up at 3:30 a.m. is becoming my new norm and I'm adjusting.
One side effect I have from the Oxycontin is insomnia. Any narcotic acts like that on me, though. Always has. So, after talking to my doctor and letting her know that my pain levels are back to being unacceptable and I'm still not getting any sleep, she added Temazepam and increased my Oxycontin. Since doing this, I now get into stage 4 sleep, dreaming again (something of which I can't remember doing in 10 years or so) AND I'm waking with almost no pain. I tried cutting out the extra Oxycontin to see if it was just the Temazepam that was helping, but that didn't work. It was the combination of increasing the Oxycontin AND adding the Restoril. I am SO HAPPY to have a doctor that listens to me and trusts me and understands me.....actually understands Fibromyalgia and my chronic pain condition.
