1) If one evening you forget whether you have already taken Dilantin, don't take any. Better to take too little than too much. 2) Keep the Dilantin bottles when they have been emptied and use them to place one full day's worth of your medications in. Memory is not necessary with this. 3) I have never noticed side effects (save larger gums). 4) Do not think that taking more medication is going to help your life. In 1995, over seventy percent of neurologists said "reduce seizures" was the primary goal when treating a person with epilepsy. Over seventy-five percent in the same survey (conducted by Epilepsy Foundation) said the primary goal is to "avoid side effects from medications".

I've taken Dilantin/Phenytoin for many years. The effect I experience most off this drug is a sort of double vision which isn't too bothersome.

This medicine does make me tired and so it is hard to do my day to day activities. I know that it is working, but that is only because they kept giving me more and more until the doctor could somewhat keep my seizures under control.

This was very effective for my epilepsy (for me anyway!), but it had the worst side effects I've ever experienced. Be careful when you first take it, make sure you know how you handle the side effects!
