Advice & Tips: For people who have been advised that their symptoms to not warrant the risks associated with Tysabri, I would encourage them to expect more from their MS treatment. I have not had any worsening of my symptoms since starting the drug 2 1/2 years ago, and gained back some of my energy! I started taking it due to adverse reactions to my prior medication, not because my symptoms were uncontrolled. I am so glad I made the switch and that my Dr. was behind it. I don't believe that I have to be struggling with this disease day to day or have an expectation that it will get worse. When I meet other people with MS who say they aren't "bad enough" to go on Tysabri, it really bothers me b/c my personal goal is to be as symptom free as possible. If you can't work due to your illness, struggle to do normal physical activities, or take a ton of other medication to lessen your symptoms, I think you should consider another form of treatment!

Advice & Tips: I'd love to experience the fullness of this MS med since I have had only 3 monthly treatments since March '09. <------ Going on 7 months w/ only 3 administered infusion therapies. **rolls eyes/shakes head** {Medicaid is willing to pay its share of $18. But only after Medicare stops giving my doctor's office & myself a hard time & pay the balance. Now the pharmaceutical company is stepping in b/c they know MS meds need to be consistent.}
Cost: < $25 monthly

Jan 21, 2011 (Started Jun 01, 2007)

  • Perceived effectiveness for Multiple Sclerosis: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Mild
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Somewhat
Dosage: 300 mg/15 mL Monthly
Advice & Tips: After I started taking this drug, I actually regained some function. I have been able to work myself back upto running 10k's. It has been a blessing. For more than a year, the day after the infussion was a great MS day. It was when I would feel my best. By the end of the cycle, I felt the withdrawl. Years later, the energy no longer really noticably spikes or dips. For the last few months, I have had increasing pains in my lower arms to my fingers with most recent pains in my fingers. Odd. Looking at list of possible side effects, I see joint pain listed. I can't say with any certainty the Tysabri causes the joint pain. It is but a guess...still, it is a concern I have that years of use may have a cumulative effect.
Cost: $50-99 monthly
Side effects: Pain in hands
