Adderall is a life saver for me, mainly its antidepressant effects but it treats my ADD symptoms very well also. When I take it in the morning, many bad days I am able to get up and move around and get some things done where before I would have been in bed all day. It makes everyday tasks that used to seem totally impossible possible. Not a cure but a huge help.

I occasionally (once every couple of weeks) take a 10mg at night if my regular dose has worn off or on a weekend day if I haven't taken my regular dose and it's late in the day. It seems much faster-acting than Adderall XR.

Adderall xr does help and it has many positive side effects. It peaked my blood sugar though, constricted my blood vessels, increased swelling, made me tired, made me depressed and moody, i formed a quick tolerance, and it's very habit forming. It actually helped me sleep which is an odd side effect. It ended up making me very tired and I would hyperfocus which didn't help me accomplish anything. It made me very depressed when I was coming off of it. It really helped me wake up in the morning and gave me a hope to be able to accomplish something for the day. Without insurance this is very expensive.

My husband thinks that this medication might contribute to my having ALS, so I take much less than I used to. I don't think it causes ALS, but I have found that I do as well with the lower dosage (20 mg once a day, rather than 40 mg twice a day). I get much more accomplished when I take Adderall, and feel better about myself.
