Well I'll be switched! I took this crap a couple of years ago with NO positive result. Needless to say I was not very open to the idea that we try it again. "You have not had it the way I prescribe it" I just did not see how that crap could work! I decided when I started going to DR Dewey I said I would give his treatments an honest try. DadGUM! He is on to something! Im on 24mg Requip XL + 6 mg Carba/Leva. He built me up to these very slowly, NO Really SLOWLY! Months to get to full dose. I dont sleep good at night. Want to stay up all night and watch movies with sex scenes. Other than that and being EXHAUSTED all the time, I am doing very well! Reduced but not gone is the shaking. Sometimes I go 30 minutes without shaking! I do NOT like being so heavily drugged!

The benefits are so great that I have no difficulty in remembering to take the meds. I am standing up straight now, walking with no difficulty, and doing things I haven't done in years.

For me, 2 Levodopa/carbidopa 25/100 pills take around an hour to provide improvement. In the meantime, it has a strong sedative effect. When it kicks in, I can walk normally, with normal arm swing. It's wonderful. I haven't timed the "on" period, but I plan to do this. The medication does not wear off gradually, but suddenly: one normal stride followed by a return to stiff, PD shuffle as I walk down a street. I'm warned that the medication is about to go because my neck muscles get a crawly feeling.

I resist taking my generic carbidopa/levodopa because about 45 minutes later a wave of extreme fatigue strikes which usually results in my going to sleep for an hour. I'd rather deal with the stiffness in walking. I'm thinking of shelling out the big bucks for Sinemet to see if it has the same effect.

I've tried it with food and without food; nothing much helps. It usually happens with the morning dose; often I end up going back to bed for a few hours, losing the morning entirely.

1. Use trial and error to find best frequency for you. 2. Do not withhold medication-there is no benefit to doing this and you could end up speeding the progression of the disease. 3. Clearly the most effective PD medication for me.

When I first started this 11 months ago, I felt so light and free on my feet. Much easier to type. Much more effective than Mirapex which made me tired). Then, I started getting more rigid, so the Dr increased the dose from from 1 tab 3x a day to 1.5 tabs 3x a day. I developed dyskenisia immediatley. Very disappointed, but he said i was very sensitive to it and that is also good. So, I dropped back to 1 tab 3x a day with the addition of amantadine 100mg 2x a day. I may experiment with 1.25tabs dosage to try to get the max. Dr said increasing the amantadine may contribute to insomnia.

Separate, by one hour, protein intake from treatment. Doing this separation, I'm told, assures the strongest possible impact of the treatment. My experience supports this.
