PATIENTSLIKEME MOOD COMMUNITY MEMBERS SHARE TIPS FOR POSITIVE INPATIENT THERAPY EXPERIENCE
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — —
Today, PatientsLikeMe, the leading online community for people with life-changing conditions, releases a new report highlighting patient experiences and tips regarding how to make the most of inpatient therapy. The first of a series entitled The Patient Voice, the report summarizes patients’ positive experiences with hospitalization from discussions of more than 10,000 patients in PatientsLikeMe Mood Conditions Community, including those with depression, anxiety, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“Despite the prospect of increased privacy of health data, patients sense the need to openly share their experiences with today’s healthcare system in order to maximize outcomes,” says David Williams, a founding executive and head of marketing and business development at PatientsLikeMe. “The Patient Voice series captures patients’ collective knowledge and amplifies it for everyone’s benefit.”
Some of the top patient tips highlighted in the inaugural report on inpatient therapy include:
- Set clear expectations/goals for your hospitalized stay
- Develop new coping skills and strategies for dealing with stress
- Coordinate care with your outside therapist/healthcare team
- Create a transition plan
The Patient Voice series, which will be launched for topics in each community, is a collection of wisdom, sentiments and experiences shared by patients regarding important issues they face today. Patients tips, suggested checklists and questions to ask oneself, and real-world patient experiences are highlighted throughout the document, which is available on the PatientsLikeMe blog and to download here.
