My mom died of kidney failure in 1970 at the age of 45. We didn't know she had PKD until I was diagnosed due to my high blood pressure. I was getting close to having to go on dialysis but my call came that they had a potential donor. He was 30 yrs old and his sister-in-law said he would have done anything for anyone. Not sure how he died. Since then, I've been very blessed with a Cr level of 1.2 to 0.8.
My son who is 23 has been tested and he has the disease. Hoping medicine will change a lot by the time he needs a kidney. My husband is very supportive also.
I am doing well since my transplant 4 yrs ago - wow, doesn't seem like it's been 4 years. 1/4/2007
My Cr. runs now around 0.7 to 0.9. It is hard to remember to take my meds every morning at the same time and every evening at the same time. I also take 2 BP meds, anti-depressants, cholesterol and triglyceride meds, restless leg syndrome meds. I have recently been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and as soon as I get a job and insurance again I will be starting on CPAP. Hopefully it will help me sleep better at night!
I like my job and am not stressed with it but it sure is tough working nights again. My family is very understanding though. I will see my transplant nephrologist in a few weeks and just had blood work done. Ask your doctors about checking your Vit. D level. Results should be back this week sometime.
