Steve Lombardi is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Helicos BioSciences Corporation. He has over 29 years of commercial biotechnology experience as a scientist and in business management. Prior to Helicos he spent four years as an executive at Affymetrix and sixteen years at Applied Biosystems. At AB, he led the formation of their DNA sequencing business and grew the business 80-fold through the development of a broad product line of instruments and applications, including those which became the standard used for the Human Genome Project.

Steve Lombardi is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Helicos BioSciences Corporation.  He joined Helicos in June 2006 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and assumed his current duties in February 2007.  He has over 29 years of commercial biotechnology experience as a scientist and in business management.  Prior to Helicos he spent four years as Senior Vice President at Affymetrix in a variety of executive roles in Corporate Development, Product R&D and Marketing.  From 1986 to 2002, Mr. Lombardi was employed by Applied Biosystems, a division of Applera Corporation, most recently as Senior Vice President of Applications and Products.  From 1989 to 1998, he led the formation of Applied Biosystems' DNA sequencing and genetic analysis business, and grew the business 80-fold through the development of a broad product line of instruments and applications, including those which became the standard used for the Human Genome Project.  Mr. Lombardi was also involved in forming Celera Genomics within the Applera corporate structure and was General Manager of AB's America's commercial operations from 1998 to 2001. He earned a BA in Biology from Merrimack College.
