I have the familial form of ALS and I am the 7th person in my family to be diagnosed. I am still able to transfer with assist & use of a slideboard. I'm losing use of my hands & my fingers are contracted I have some arm weakness, but I am still able to talk and swallow. My legs & feet are 95% paralyzed. In the beginning I was in an ALS support group. I have been to the ALS Clinic in Houston, TX, per Dr. Stanley Appel from 2001-2003. I have been involved with Jerry Lewis' telethon every two years for the first 7 years after my diagnosis.
I am married, I have two young adult sons, ages 27and 30and one step-son age 31nbsp; I have just recently moved to the country to be near family and support them, as them us. My husband and I are originally from Dallas, TX. I am an RN. I worked at a hospital in Birmingham, AL for 6 years. I love the read, enjoy photograpy, and love dogs. Our youngest son got married last June & we are excited to have a daughter-in-law added to our family and hoping that leads to our future grandchildren! Two years ago I was on hospice for a year. I thank God I am doing so much better! I will always hold out hope for a cure for ALS! I will keep my hope alive for all of you brave ones fighting for a cure or living with ALS and my prayers will be with you all wherever you are. Thank-you for your hope and help. I am not very computer literate, my sons and my husband are though, and we will try to keep in touch. God bless!
