I am a 76 year old mostly retired accountant living in Calgary, Canada with my wife of 51 yrs. We have 3 adult children & 5 grand children. My first symptom (slurred speech) was in June, 2010 but was not diagnosed with ALS until May, 2011. In the interval I was offered 3 other diagnoses, all incorrect. It wasn't until my walking started to become laboured that I was referred.
My wife is extremely supportive. I don't know how I'd manage without her. My main concern is the increasing strain on her as my condition worsens and the inevitable gets closer. So far we are coping reasonably well.
