What is Sulfamethoxazole? Sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide bacteriostatic antibiotic most often used as part of a combination with trimethoprim, also known as Bactrim, Septrin, or Septra. It is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections and as alternative to amoxicillin-based antibiotics to treat sinusitis.
