What is 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP)?

4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) is a potassium channel blocker. It acts by blocking potassium channels in damaged nerve fibers enabling the axon to transmit nerve impulses again. It has been under study for spinal cord injuries and for Multiple Sclerosis.
