What is Self Catheterization? Intermittent self catheterization is the temporary placement of a catheter (tube) to remove urine from the body. This is done by placing the catheter through the urethra (the tube that leads from the bladder to the outside opening) to empty the bladder.

It's not as bad as you think it will be - the anticipation of it is much worse than the actual doing of it.

Advice/Tips
SIC (self-intermittent catheterization) is really no big deal at all. I perchance you receive Medicare, there is a new ruling that states that we who SIC are entitles to a new catheter each time. Woo Hoo. I just received approval for this and was really happy about it. This takes the out of pocket cost away for me. If you have Medicare, Google Medicare and Intermittent catheters.
