Lost function of my kidneys at 20, from strep infection. Received a miracle cadaveric transplant after being on dialysis a month, March 1975. Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, author of "Ordinary Patriot" & "All Trial By Fire, A Woman's Journey" which chronicals my story of kidney failure & transplant while simultaneously going through the most horrific domestic violence. I work at Restoration Life Christian Church & do everything-finance to helping the homeless. After almost 39 years post tranplant I'm doing better than ever. Drs want to biopsy my kidney to satisfy their curiosity about such an old cadaver transplant. I refuse!
As a transplant patient, I am a dinosaur. Some of the questions they ask transplant patients I can't even answer, like what was your dosage when you first got your transplant? Who remembers after 39 years? What kind of web helps or DVDs did you get to explain your transplant experience after your transplant? (Well.. nothing. They didn't have personal computers or DVDs yet) I finally had the courage to write my second book, All Trial By Fire, A Woman's Journey; my story of going through domestic violence similtaneously with kidney failure and transplant. It was tough to write but I feel great about it.
