Zyprexa is an effective medication when used to treat bipolar disorder; however, the metabolic side effects (including severe weight gain, etc) must be taken into consideration before starting this medication. If Zyprexa's side effect profile becomes too problematic, the next atypical antipsychotic of choice is Abilify. Abilify is weight neutral in many patients.
