About lizely
Hi! Back in 1994 I found out I was in renal failure after being diabetic most of my life. While in the hospital the doc came in to talk and tell me about trasplants which I had never heard of. He said "we can give you a new kidney". I said that would be wonderful but they should put in a pancreas because that's what caused all of this! ( Just joking)He said sure we can do that! WOW so I got a kidney and pancreas on June 15 1995 after going thru dialysis for 6 months. Life was good after some initial struggles and I went on well for the next 9 years..My labs showed my creatinine slowly going up
I Went to get a biopsy done and it was my worst fear,Chronic rejection which there is no fix for. This was in Nov. of 2002. Well my search began. I thought I may be able to find a living donor but it's not easy! My son went through the testing and passed but had to lose quite alot of weight. Meanwhile my best friend said she would if my son didn't make it and passed her testing. There was comfort at least knowing I had the support. Time kept on going, the creatinine kept getting higher. I went on arenesp injections to keep my energy up. Well it came down to the weight not being lost enough and my friend backed out when we were set to make the date. My doctor said I needed to get on dialysis ( my creatinine was up to 6.4)But I kept saying not yet. I really felt okay except for the stress of it all. I also was back on small amount of insulin. Well time kept passing and then on Sept 11,2004 a Saturday late in the afternoon the phone rang and it was Northwestern Hosital! They said they had found a perfect match kidney from Texas and wanted me over there Sunday morning at 6:00am. I said I WILL BE THERE! So I got my new kidney, was out 2 days later and it has been working great! Also after I had gotten back home I put my name on the pancreas list and got another pancreas 9 months later! Such miracles have happened and I am so truly grateful for everyday and everybody! Thanyou for taking the time to read my story and would love to hear from anyone!
