About Eliza

I recently moved to Georgia from Upstate New York, mainly for the milder winters! I am in my 14th diagnosed year of Parkinson's and I am a very grateful person. I refer to my Parkinson's as JOE PARKER and I have done so since the 2nd year of having IT as a visitor. I did not want to take the rap for being so tired or shaking or "slower than molasses in January" or etc. etc. with my grandchildren or anyone, it is Joe Parker that is blamed (and I find there is blame)My first summer of diagnosis I took off on my motorcycle, just JOE and I from NY to GA and my life keeps on moving (pun!)

More About Eliza

I attribute my wellness in the Parkinson community to several things, they are:

1.I believe the fact that I have lived alone all of these years has made me need to do things myself.

2. I believe my physical hard work has helped to stay off a great deal of the Parkinson's symptoms and my willingness to try new things has not left me.

3. With the exception of the first 4 years after the diagnosis of Parkinson's, I have been primarily positive about things  that my medication helps Joe to stay under control. I use these phrases on a regular basis; FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT-- OH YES YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU WILL DO IT. (I MUST CONSTANTLY PUSH MYSELF TO DO THINGS
BECAUSE OF DEPRESSION AND APATHY LURKING RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER)

I have taken up oil painting as a therapy for when I am painting,Parkinson's symptoms disappear. I CONTINUE TO DRIVE A MOTOR VEHICLE SAFELY however, the kinds of driving has changed such as no long trips, stay out of rush hour traffic and rarely do I drive at night.
