Woke up blind in my right eye on Dec 27 2008. Within 10 days I had lost vision completely in both eyes. In Feb/March 2009 started getter severe lower back pain. By July I could no longer walk due to pain and weakness, followed by complete lower limb paralysis in August. Although I have recovered a little sight and now just visually impaired, I've never regained the use of my lower limbs. I had a severe relapse in May 2012 and became quadriplegic. Luckily when the quadriplgia suddenly came on I was already in hospital for surgery to have a PEJ feeding tube placed and therefore got immediate treatment. Due to this quick treatment after 4 months rehab I had regained much of my previous strength. Residuall problems of my NMO include neurogenic bladder (suprapubic catheter in situ), neurogenic bowel, autonomic dysreflexia, chronic pain, gastroparesis, spasms/twitching, difficulties swallowing (sometimes) & gastroparesis (Mic-Key PEJ feeding tube in situ).
