Since finding out that I may have FM in May 09, I have learnt that FM can occur after trauma. My onset was immediately after giving birth to my son Charlie. I almost died due to massive blood loss and I had 3 surgeries in less than 24hrs which luckily saved my life. Unfortunately this was my first child and I can not have any more children as a result of the surgery that saved my life. I remember the muscle spasms when I was in intensive care along with pain and anxiety and insomnia (which at the time I attributed to the trauma and being separated from my baby).
I have been going to physiotherapy since 3 weeks after leaving hospital. I have tried massage, I have been doing pilates with my physio for 9 months and acupuncture for 6 months. Acupuncture is usually relieving except sometimes I get a reaction for a few days which can be off putting but in the long term i think careful pilates and gentle swimming and acupuncture and heat packs work best for me with anti inflammatory cream (Arnica herbal based) and tablets (Neurophen or Neurophen plus seem to work best). I would like to get some tips on management of pain and fatigue and low immunity as I have a 2 year old and I have returned to work 2 days a week and finding it hard going at the moment.
