I've had some trouble with anxiety and depression for many years. I was diagnosed with agoraphobia when I was in my early 20s and was thought to be triggered by my father dying when I was 17. I get on medication for a few months at a time just to get things balanced and then get off it and usually don't need it again unless I have a stressful even get things to the unbearable point again. And,depression affects me also sometimes,but something has to happen to put me there and I do the same with it;take meds for a short time and then get off it until something else gets me to the point where I don't function well. Other than these episodes,my life is normal. Also, my spouse is Bipolar. I've known since we met. In the beginning of the marriage, we had some clashes I think caused from being married to someone before that had the disorder that was not being treated that lasted 2 years, but we do really good and I have a greater understanding of bipolar disorder now.
