I'm the caregiver for my wife who had Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration, which is a very rare disease that's similar to Parkinson's in many ways. But yet very different at the same time. Only one person in 600,000 has this illness. It can only be definatively diagnosed after death by an autopsy of the brain. Useful for the medical community but not much help for my wife or me.
UPDATE:
My wife died on March 10, 2010 as a result of CCGD. It's fatal, but it takes far too long to do it's ugly work (5 yrs). In the process death comes very slowly, and painfully. Case closed!
