I have been suffering from depression/anxiety from March 2007. The initial manifestation was that of constant, extreme fatigue. I was diagnosed in June of 2007. Since then I have been on SSRI's, SNRI's, Tricyclics, Mood Stabilizers, Wellbutrin, MAOI's and ECT and a couple atypical antidepressants. I'm in therapy at variying frequencies. Though there have been some very rough times, I am fortunate to be surrounded by a caring family, supportive friends, guiding mentors, and doctors that I trust. I first noticed a problem around March 2007 when I became more tired than usual.  I decided I wasn't getting enough sleep but even trying to get to sleep early didn't alleviate the problem.

By mid april, it was hard for me to sit at a table for a complete meal.  I had to excuse myself to the couch and plop down.  I also became slightly less interested in what was going on around me.  I went to over ten doctors in different feilds all without any answer to why this might be happening.

Finally, a close advisor recommended I see a friend of his who is a psychologist regarding a different issue.  By that time I was highly depressed, so apparent that people kept coming up to me asking if everything was allright.  The psychologist didn't see any obvious signs of depression, but recommended me to a colleague whom he trusted as a diagnostician.

At that appointment, I summarized what had been happening in the months prior and with that information he diagnosed me with Depression/Anxiety.  I have been seeing him on a monthly basis since; due to the atypical (and treatment-resistant) nature of my mood disorder, it's been a wild ride trying to find the right medications to keep me healthy and stable.
