Advice & Tips
I participated in a clinical drug trial at the ALS clinic at UCSF. The purpose of the study was to help with uncontrollable laughter and crying. Of the 3 blind trial dosages available (Full strength, half strength, and placebo), I conjectured that I received the half strength pill. With the trial over now, I have chosen to continue with the study on an open label basis, which guarantees that I receive the full strength dose. My laughing/crying symptoms have markedly decreased in the second phase (with the real drug).

About Dextromethorphan with Quinidine (Prescription Drug)

A dextromethorphan-quinidine combination was studied for its effect on inappropriate laughing and crying episodes experienced by some patients with brain injury or brain degeneration due to certain diseases. The incongruous laughing and crying episodes are due to pseudobulbar affect.
