More About Shakin
July 25, 2007 our family doctor referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with Essential Tremor. After three rounds of treatment without improvement, but increasing tremors, he referred me to as specialist in Houston. August 20, 2008 Houston doctor dx PD with possibly some ET. In the following ten days I read what I could about PD.
At my next family doctor visit IV Glutathione was mentioned as having possible beneficial results. A couple of weeks later I was loaned a book extolling the benefits of IV Glutathione, then I met a lady that was taking the IV GSH treatment and thought they were beneficial. I searched out oral GSH and tried it for a couple of months. Later I traveled to Florida for the IV treatments. I experienced no benefit from the treatments which are rather costly, then was told it just does not work for everyone. Well I had that figured out already. By the end of June I had been referred to a MDS at UT SWestern Medical Center. Well the first new patient appointment was Oct 29. A very thorough exam at the end he looked me in the eye and said he is 95% certain that I have Tremor Predominate Parkinson's, he said to stop one RX immediately and taper off another over 28 days. Then he said he would like to start me on Requip XL and we talked about the possible side effects. Fortunately, through PLM I was already aware of the side effects. He also warned me that a percentage of TPPDers do not respond to any RX. Another thing he mentioned about PD patients in general that I had not heard before, is that we have a greater risk of Melanoma and all PD patients should have annual check up with a dermatologist. It was refreshing to meet a doctor who is confident in his diagnosis, comprehensive in his abilities and open about the limitations in treatment on the first visit. The best I have felt about an initial visit yet. Hopeful that Requip works for me, fully aware that it may not.
Recently (11.09) experiencing anxiety at night over the sensation that I cannot breathe deeply. Seems to be caused by extremely dry membranes, also awake with dry eyes. Breathe Right strips and netty pot help. Some nights must give in to taking Xanax to releive anxiety. December 2009, after three weeks the anxiety has subsided substantially. Each week when I increase the dose I get sick for a day or two. (Sick - feels like the instant flu. Nausea, headache and generally yucky feeling.) See my evaluation each week as I report on previous week.
