I was diagnois with Primary Lateral scerolsis in 1995. It began with voice problems. after a bout with the flu in 1991 my voice became hoarse and words were hard to get out. It was a stressful strangled sounding voice. They dx back then 1991 with Spasmodic Dysphonia, it was my only symtom for five years. Then I fell and broke my wrist and during physical theraphy my right leg began to stiffin up. My balance also became effected. I went to several doctors before I found my current neurogolist who dx me correctly finally. He had only three others in practice with PLS. I have for the most part plateau for whatever reason. I'd say I'm mildly effected PLS with my balance being my worse symtum. I have joined PLS friends through a yahoo group call PLS Friend in 1996 and through that organization have meet many others who have PLS. It is a rare diease and effects everyone differently as I have seen others who have had PLS for either a short or long time who are far worse then I.
