- I have taken this medicine, with the exception of about a year, since 1991, and have not had any grand mal seizures. I have had mild aural seizure activity, but not bad enough to warrant a visit to the doctors. It has been 20 years without a grand mal seizure for me, and I think that is a big accomplishment compared to how I did before I started taking Depakote.
