I was on Amitriptyline (125 mg) for 20 years for migraines and sleep. Stopped it and dropped 100 lbs. in 9 mos w/no dietary or lifestyle changes. Have had to change to Trazadone for sleep and Topomax for migraines. Good luck!!

Amitriptyline didn't affect my weight, but having a urologist tell me that I might need to 'self-catheterize' 3 times a day at age 52 was really upsetting. I am SO relieved that stopping my low dose (30 mg) made such a difference in that regard; my bladder works! I'm also sleeping better now that I've adjusted to not using it. The first week or two was difficult. A nice thing has been the return of dreams. I hadn't dreamed (or remembered any dreams) for the years I was taking amitrip., and sometimes dreams are FUN!

I've had trouble with urinary incontinence for a year and all of a sudden it stopped after the doctor told me that "my brain doesn't communicate with my bladder." WTF? After the diagnosis of narcolepsy, my sleep disorder (and the Trazadone) seem to work better and I'm finally sleeping through the night. I don't know what my system is doing, but maybe I'm getting (at least) a little bit better at 53?

I looked at your profile... we have a lot in common (not good stuff - BC, FMS, etc.!). I wonder what the deal is with people like us. I come from a family of 12 kids, and I get cancer twice! There's a lot of autoimmune disease amongst us, but STILL. Breast cancer, thyroid cancer (no relation to each other), lupus, AND fibro, PTSD, etc? Jeez! I don't rail about the unfairness of it, but it does piss me off now and then. In the meantime, I'm truly working on being healthy while living with health issues. It's a better frame of mind than depression anyway.

I don't know about your urinary incontinence. There is a LOT of literature about it if you're inclined.

I'm finally sleeping through the night too. Klonopin does the job.

Klonopin (day or night) and Atavan turns me into a zombie. Trazadone helps w/sleep, Dr. just prescribed Adderall (sp?) for daytime sleepiness, although I haven't started using it yet. Top it off with being accident prone, I took a bad fall (I was standing on the coffee table) on Monday and had x-rays yesterday to see if I broke my shoulder (it's been broken 3 times already) or my collar bone; waiting for results today. Yes, I noticed we had lots in common before contacting you .... I enjoy our little "chats."
